Our great-grandfather Djoba, also known as Djoubakè Coulibaly, was one of the grandsons of Mossokoura Bô, king of the Bambara Massassi kingdom of Kaarta.
He was born in Bougouni, in the Banan canton, at Fêrêtou, located in the Commune of Dogo, forty kilometers from Sido on National Route Seven (RN7), between Bamako and Sikasso.
Thanks to his bravery, he quickly joined the army of Samory Touré, emperor of Ouassoulou, where he became one of the war chiefs.
After the Battle of Woyovayanko in 1883, Djoba founded Oualia along with other war chiefs:
Tièni Niambélé
Allahyéminkè Traoré
Minkoro, also known as Dougoutigui Koro
He became the village chief in 1900 and passed away in 1939.
Djoubakè Coulibaly was later joined by his younger sister Tènin Coulibaly, who had been enslaved by highway bandits and sold to the Sarakolé.
Note: Oualia was originally a hunting site of Massa Ouali, which is where the name Oualila or Oualia comes from.
Djoba Coulibaly, our grandfather/great-grandfather and ancestor, had three wives and sixteen children.
